Best London Areas for Movers Who are Sports Enthusiasts

Apart from being one of the best places to live in, London is also a legendary sports capital. The English capital has hosted the Olympics on three separate occasions and it is home to some of the most prestigious sports tournaments. In addition, the city is rich in open green spaces which are ideal not only for recreational purposes but also for playing sports. Therefore, if you have a soft spot for sports and you are looking to relocate to a new area somewhere in London, you may want to pick a place that is:

  • Abundant in high-quality sports facilities
  • Located close to your favourite sports championship
  • More sport-friendly compared to other London districts

Top areas for sports fans

If you prefer to be a spectator rather than a participant when it comes to sports, you should better relocate to an area that is situated in near proximity to a world-known sports landmark. The top two choices that you have here are, without a doubt, Wimbledon and Wembley. The former district hosts the oldest tennis championship in the world, while the latter has the largest football stadium in the United Kingdom – Wembley Stadium. It’s tough to choose between these two sporty London areas, but Wimbledon has one key advantage over Wembley. The home of the most prestigious tennis tournament gets busy only when the championship is on, whereas Wembley is almost constantly organising football and rugby matches, as well as various music concerts. The Borough of Greenwich is also a good area to move to if you are a sports fan. Namely there you will find The O2 arena and one of south-east London’s biggest green open spaces –  Greenwich Park.

Spots for those who want to stay in shape

Former Lambeth HospitalWhile most London districts are abundant in parkland and open spaces that are suitable for sports recreation and training, there is one borough that takes the crown when it comes to sports parks. The London Borough of Lambeth is known for being the home of more than 10 award-winning parks. Therefore, its open green spaces and recreation grounds are not only well maintained but they are also incredibly beautiful. One of the most sport-friendly of them is Archbishop’s Park which is set in the district of Lambeth SE1. If you enjoy outdoor workouts, you should also consider moving to Kennington SE11 which is located in the same borough.  The biggest sports attraction in the district is The Oval which is a massive cricket ground. But since this facility is generally reserved for professional cricket matches, you can instead head to Kennington Park where you can find everything from cricket nets and football pitches to tennis courts and athletic sprint tracks.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is among the largest sports hubs in the UK capital. Although the 2012 London Olympic games are long gone, the facilities on the park’s territory are still used for many important international sports events and some of them are even open to the public. If you want to live close to the Olympic Park, you have more than one area to choose from since the complex is spanning in four different boroughs – Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest. Before you start packing, research the local property markets and public transport links and pick your winner.
